An individual woman has 1 in 9 chance of devoloping breast cancer in her life. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed type of cancer for women.

The average 10-year survival rate for women with invasive breast cancer is today 87%.

About 5-7% of breast cancer cases are thought to be hereditary.

The AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1965 by a group of researchers at the Istituto Tumori in Milan, including Umberto Veronesi and Giuseppe della Porta.
